Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1: Can you help us design our project? Help us with engineering?

Yes, we can design, engineer and provide you with a 3D drawing of your entire project, even pipeline, bridge and fence projects.

Question 2: Do you do small projects?

We do projects from $250-$3,000,000 and everything in between. We do new builds, remodels, rehabilitation, we take emergency calls, we work nights and weekends, often we fix projects that other contractors left undone. We do whatever it takes to serve our community and customers. No project is too small. We enjoy having relationships with our customers. We want to work with you and hope you want to work with us. Once we begin to work together our hope is to continue to help you with your projects as needed.

Question 3: Can you build this?

The answer is almost always yes. We are often known as the company you call when you run into project problems or need a self-reliant full service contractor.

Question 4: What is the process to hire you to do work for us?

The best and most efficient way is to have some idea of what you are looking for. Then do some research on your own of the general cost for your project. Once you have the rough outline on those items then reach out to us through our website or social media outlets. We will call or email you to review the scope of your project. Don't worry about knowing all of the stuff upfront. Sometimes the planning stages can take 4-5 years for a bigger project and sometimes gathering funds for the project can take a long time. We understand and will help you through the entire process. If you need help with some of the design, engineering, functionality, planning or phasing concepts of your project please let us know. That is what we are here for. Our consulting is free and so are our estimates.

Question 5: Do you take care of the location request or do we?

Baty Builders will take care of and manage all locate and 811 dig requests.

Question 6: Do you finish the inside of the shops and other buildings?

It is not required for you to finish the inside of the barn or shop or house. That can be done at another time, you can do it yourself or you can hire someone else to do it. We offer this service and are happy to do it for you at any point. Sometimes you have to bite off projects a little bit at a time and finish them as it makes sense. We understand that and want to help in all the phases of your project.

Question 7: Do you build custom homes?

We take on one “SIGNATURE PROJECT” per year where we put a ton of time and detail into a custom home, custom shop, major renovation project, state jobs, donation project or something of the sort. Sometimes the projects take multiple years to complete so we might only take on a Signature project every few years.

Question 8: Do you do steel build kits and steel erection?

The simple answer is yes. We do offer steel building kit construction and have done many steel building kits. In eastern Idaho and western Wyoming there are many great steel erection companies. This is their focus and we try not to compete with them on this as they are our friends and neighbors. We often help them when they get more work than they need or when weather moves in and they need a crew or two to help finish a project up quickly. If you want us to install one for you we would recommend that you get a bid from us as well as 2-3 others in the area to make sure you are getting the right fit for your project. If you are building a custom barn, hay shed, shed row, livestock arena, pipe fence, pipe building, custom mezzanine, stairwells, archway, gates, custom doors, entryway, custom fabricated building then we are your go to source for this.We are the only company in Idaho and most of wyoming that is building custom made structures that are locally produced in house. This keeps costs down for you, it allows us to guarantee our products and services. It also allows us the opportunity to keep our team busy with work year round.

Question 9: Do you always build with metal?

No. We build wood buildings, pole barns and use wood in many of our projects. We do many custom wood fencing jobs each year as well as build decorative wood tables that are metal framed. Long story short we focus on metal but offer many wood options. We will use whatever material makes the most sense for your project. Material prices fluctuate so much these days that it is important to keep a pulse on what the costs are of every material option so that we can offer you the best bang for your buck.

Question 10: Do you build bridges?

Yes we do build and design bridges. We work with a team of local engineers to build your bridge. We enjoy doing bridges because each one is custom and unique. Every bridge built you start from scratch and there are no copying plans from someone else's bridge. We do most of our bridge building in the spring and fall. Our focus is on access bridges for private residences across canals, ditches, rivers and streams. We build our bridges with a variety of materials: concrete, ecology-blocks, metal I-beams, wood supports and beams, prestressed concrete beams, concrete I-beam girders. Once the engineering is done we will select the best materials that meet all requirements and give you a bid on the project.

Question 11: Where do I buy one of your hay feeders?

We build our hay feeders and portable shelters year round. We need an 8-12 week lead time to build most hay feeders and portable shelters. We often have a few of them in stock but they are built to order. We offer many custom options on our portable shelters so make sure to ask about them or check out our portable shelter gallery on our website.

Question 12: Do you offer delivery on your portable shelters, hay feeders and other products you make?

Yes we do offer delivery to your location on almost all of our products. We charge a flat rate fee plus a millage rate. Our delivery fee covers our labor and fuel cost but is a non-profit value add that we offer to our customer.

Question 13: Are you bonded?

We do not carry a general bond. We are boned only when required. Being bonded when not required adds additional cost and overhead and then we have to charge more for our scope of work. We can obtain bid bonds, performance bonds, and payment bonds as required and needed on specific projects. If a bond is required just let us know. This is not an issue.

Question 14: What is your warranty?

We offer a 5 year workmanship warranty for every one of our projects, products and services. This is the best in the industry. Many of the materials we use on our buildings and livestock products are manufactured warrantied for 1-5 years, 10-20 years and some up to 40 years (some of the metal roofing and siding we use is a 40 year warranty). In short if something fails and it is our workmanship that is the reason we will fix it at our cost no questions asked. Our goal is to do it right and to overbuild vs underbuild something. Meeting the standard, specification, requirement, or “passing inspections” is not good enough for us. We have to be able to sleep at night during the worst of winter storms and know that our work and your project (product you bought from us) is going to last the test of time.

Question 15: What states and areas do you work in?

Our shop and office is located in Idaho Fall, ID. We operate primarily in Eastern Idaho, Western Wyoming and Northern Utah. Bonneville county Idaho and Jackson Wyoming is where 70% of our work is conducted. We also build products that we sell online and ship all over the globe. Some of this is done through third party retailers.

Question 16: Will you travel out of state for long periods of time on bigger projects?

Yes, we have traveled all over the US and completed many wonderful projects while providing for our families and we plan to continue to travel as needed. Here are some of the states we have completed: Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, Wisconsin, Nevada, California, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Washington, Texas.

Question 17: Do you design and make custom signs and metal art work?

Yes, this is one of our favorite avenues of our business. Check out our gallery for some of our recent custom metal signs.

Question 18: Do you build barndominiums?

Yes, we offer some very unique options when it comes to barndominiums. We offer three different options: Post-frame construction barndominiums, metal framed barndominiums, and Pole barn style barndominiums. Barndos are a big hit across the west and we think they will continue to be popular for a long while. One thing that they don't get enough credit for is the ability to make ADA accessible efficiently and to do so cost effectively.
